Geocache Description:


This cache is placed here in honor of Katherine Jefferts Schori. Born in 1954, she was educated at Stanford, Oregon State U (PhD) and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific. A biologist by training, she was ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church in 1994, consecrated Bishop of Nevada in 2001 and elected Presiding Bishop (Primate) of the Episcopal Church in June 2006. She was consecrated as Presiding Bishop on November 4, 2006 at the Washington Cathedral. Coming 30 years after women were first admitted to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church, and 17 years after the first woman (Barbara Harris) became a bishop in Massachusetts, Katherine Jefferts Schori broke the so-called "stained-glass ceiling", becoming the first woman primate in the world-wide Anglican Communion.

This cache is in an area near where I've spent numerous Thursday mornings at the spectacular Stumpy Lake golf course. Park at N36 46.514 W076 09.638, but be aware that the gates to this area are locked at sunset. There is a loop trail leading past the area of the cache. The trail is maintained by the Citizens for Stumpy Lake, and they have plans for extending it with another loop in the future. The cache is a 35 mm cannister. It is within 25 feet of the trail. (Please note that it was difficult to get a consistent reading of the coordinates given the tree cover. I have averaged 6 different reads.)
