Geocache Description:

>

The Good ole Chehalis Western Trail!  You gotta love it!

How' s 'bout riding it?

This cache will take you from milepost 6.5 in Lacey to the end of the Chehalis Western Trail (near Rainier) where it meets the Yelm-to-Tenino trail - a distance of circa 15 miles each way.

Along the way, you are looking for seven (7) one inch x three inch aluminum "tags" (similar to dog tags) which have a letter and a number stamped on them.

The letter is the Waypoint Name ("A" - "G") and the number is needed so that you can "Do The Math" in order to solve for the coordinates of the final cache.

The first waypoint (Waypoint "A") is shown at the top of this cache page description.

The Final Cache (Ammo Can) has, in addition to the normal SWAG, three envelopes inside it.  One envelope is marked (For the FTF); one is marked (For the STF) and the third envelope is marked (For the TTF) and they each contain a $5.00 Starbucks gift card for the first three finders.

Parking can be had at the Chambers Lake Trailhead (which necessitates a half-mile "backtrack") or you can actually find parking very near the beginning at waypoint "A".

Important

Waypoints B and E are missing.  Therefore; I am giving you their letter values so that you may proceed or continue on with this cache.  They are as follows:

          B = 4
       E = 8

 DOING THE MATH

Once you have found all seven of the "tags" (and thus have the numbers associated with each of the seven letters), use the formulas below to compute the coordinates for the final cache location:

North (Latitude) coordinates: 46o jk.lmn
West (Longitude) coordinates: 122o op.qrs

    where:

  j = F
  k = G
  l = A
  m = E
  n = C - 1
  o = B
  p = D + 2
  q = C
  r = B - 3
  s = F - 5

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

o Bring with you something to write on and with in order to record the numbers found on the "tags"
o The "tags" are intended to be very easy to find (using the hints is intended)
o Even though the seventh and last "tag" will be found at the end of the trail (where it meets the Yelm-to-Tenino trail), this doesn't necessarily mean that the final cache location will be close by.  Why it could even be found somewhere on your way back towards Lacey!
o To help you gain confidence that you did the math correctly, the "checksum" for the 15 digits making up the final cache coordinates is "56" (summing up all 15 digits yields "56")
