Geocache Description:

A nice trip around Maiden Erlegh Lake

The cache is not at this location, these coordinates are for the main entrance to the park.

This is a nice walk around the Maiden Erlegh Lake which will hopefully be fun for the children, it's about a mile and a half so should take no more than an hour depending on the little feet you may have with you. You can find lots of interesting history and active conservation activities about Maiden Erlegh Nature Reserve here. It is suitable for pushchairs, although there is an area where the ground may be a little soft and another with a ramp with a few sloping steps. You may see quite a lot of fishermen along the banks of the lake as well swans and ducks (Old bread might be an idea). There is a children’s playground near the main entrance.

Parking at the main entrance to the park (N51 25.937 W000 55.211) is unfortunately usually closed unless there is some sport activity scheduled in the park. Otherwise the only close parking is in the residential streets around the park – please don’t block any driveways. On-street parking is also available on the Northern side of the lake in Lakeside Road (N51 26.040 W000 55.514). Access to the main entrance is via Marefield Street off Rushey Way.

The cache itself is an ammo box with few goodies and a log. Please take care not to be seen retrieving and replacing the cache.

You start off by going to N51 25.966 W000 55.263, here you will find A by counting how many tyres are hanging by chains - be careful to count them all. At the same place you will also find B by counting how many red climbing grips there are on the side of the green playwall. Just before setting off you can count the number of swings to get C. Now make your way to N51 25.985 W000 55.343, you’re looking for D here, the number of little pictures that make up the Coppice Cycle. If you brought some old bread you might want to feed the ducks on the vantage point close to here. Onward now to N51 26.027 W000 55.469 to make a note of E which is the number of fish you can see - not in the lake! The adventure continues to find F, you need to find the number of squirrels you can see at N51 26.025 W000 55.728. Next is G which is the number of acorns very close to a fox, so head to N51 25.942 W000 55.499 where you should find the answer. The last clue is to find H, the very first digit of a phone number, which can be found by looking here N51 25.951 W000 55.354.
