A 30 cal ammo can, loaded with the usual stuff located very near
the top of Bergen Peak
Park at the Elk Meadow parking lot on Stagecoach Road for easiest access. This can best be described as a long, but enjoyable hike that has a cache associated with it.
The hike is 9.4 miles round trip with a 1750' elevation gain. Hiking boots are not required and good walking or running shoes could be used. For the vast majority of the hike, you will be hiking on dirt. This is a long hike, hence the terrain rating of 4. Please think carefully about attempting it before you start. Take lots of water and perhaps some snacks. My total time was 4.5 hours.
If you go, DO NOT CUT SWITCHBACKS! You will be sorely tempted to do so becuase of the trail layout but it just erodes trails and doesn't earn us any friends with the ranger staff. Also along that line, keep your environmental impact to a minimum. It will be appreciated.
