Geocache Description:

Local cachers may begin to recognize the general coordinates of this cache simply by the name. This cache is near a relatively scenic section of a local stream. Other portions of this stream have been channelized and downgraded over the years to a glorified ditch that drains the extensive commercial developed areas upstream to the south. This stream intersects an inactive railroad grade now owned by the Town of Amherst. The original railroad goes back to the 1850’s when it ran from Canandaigua to North Tonawanda and was referred to as “a peanut of a line” due to its relatively short length. The rails have long since been removed and the right-of-way has been an established unpaved walking trail for many years. Additional historical background on the old railroad may be found at: (visit link) Further east, in the Town of Clarence, this right-of-way has been fully converted to a paved bike trail which is also home to several geocaches.

Recommended parking is at the nearby “Almost Paradise” cache (GXCR10). The coordinates were established by averaging over 120 measurements with a 60CX receiver and should be an easy find. As with many wooded areas this year, watch out for poison ivy. This cache is stuffed with several goodies. The first to find will be rewarded with a couple of scratch-off lottery tickets.
