Geocache Description:

A nice walk, a nice view and a little history... A wonderful travel bug retreat!

We can thank Jo Labadie for this wonderful metropark. He was an original labor leader, a published anarchist, a philanthropist. Jo donated this land that makes up this part of the the Metropark.

This land was his farm and the road nearby is named for him. Still standing are parts of the house and the beautiful natural stone farmer's walls.

Perhaps he liked to stand on this hill and picnic or enjoy the view...

Perhaps something or someone is buried here.

This is a great place for a relaxing and private family picnic. Please keep it clean, Cache-In/Trash-Out.

The cache is filled with great high end treasures, please trade fairly or not at all. The travel bugs in this travel bug retreat are on missions, please do not take them unless you will help fulfill those missions.

The log book is waterproof and waiting for your favorite quote about personal freedom, liberty and equality... make Jo proud and have your favorite quote ready.

From Julie Herrada, Curator, The UofM Labadie Collection: "Joseph and Sophie Labadie owned a small piece of land they called Bubbling Waters, in what is now Kensington Metropark. The property was donated to the park by their children after Jo Labadie's death in 1933... The park service commemorated this gift by naming Labadie Rd. and keeping the remnants of the cabin intact. There is also a small display illustrating the Labadie's life there in the Nature Center."
