Michigan Geocaching Organization is happy to promote geocaching for the Oakland Township Parks and Recreation at their annual “Goodison Good Tyme” event. MiGO was invited to set up an informational booth at this event to promote geocaching.

Experienced geocachers are invited to come out and enjoy the festivities and possibly volunteer to take a newbie on their first cache hunt. Please post in your log if you can take a newbie on a cache hunt in the park.

We also have a local cacher placing a couple permanent caches for everyone's enjoyment.

If you wish to place caches in Oakland Township, read these Geocaching Guidelines for the Oakland Township parks.

Cache along the Paint Creek Trail , the first rail to trail in the State of Michigan, was acquired in 1983 from the former Penn Central Railroad for $450,000. The 8.9 mile Trail follows the Paint Creek as it meanders through fields, prairies, woodlands and marshlands. The Paint Creek is the major remaining cold water designated trout stream in the Detroit area, around which many game and non-game birds, frogs, snakes and toads make their home. A naturalized corridor, the Trail is home to fox, squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, quail, pheasant and forest birds. White tail deer are frequently observed in early morning or at dusk.

The Bear Creek Nature Park consists of 107 scenic acres. ADA accessible limestone trails and boardwalks, as well as mowed rustic trails throughout the park, give easy access to its woodlands, open meadows, marshlands, and wetlands. These trails allow hiking, biking, geocaching, cross-country skiing and observing of some of Michigan's varied wildlife in their natural habitats.

The Bear Creek Nature Park Conservation Easement has been set aside for the Oakland Land Conservancy, they protect 39 acres within a 107-acre Oakland Township Park in Section 27 and includes a high quality oak hardwood forest and marsh. This site has an FQI of 45.25 with an impressive total of 280 native species. Completion of this easement will occur pending final Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) approval.
