This cache is hidden at the end of the Cape Smokey trail. Park in Cape Smokey Provincial Park.
In 1968, the Cape Smokey area was devastated by a huge forest fire which stretched from Wreck Cove to Ingonish, and destroyed nearly all of the trees and other vegetation on the mountain. Much of the mountain is still bare today even though the fire was over 50 years ago. Most of the mountain however is once again covered with trees and now makes a popular habitat for bears, moose and many other animals. Moose sightings are all but guaranteed on this trail, bringing a camera is a good idea. This is a fairly easy hike with only gradual elevation changes. Most do it in about 3 hours round trip. There are many great lookoffs along the trail which ends with a great view of Ingonish and Middle Head. Good luck!
