Geocache Description:

Overgrown brush and some fallen trees may make negotiating terrian a little difficult but watch your footing and you will be fine.

This is an old abandoned cemetary (like the name says) on the north end of Charleston. Charleston is surrounded by caches but none in town...I felt sorry for it. One interesting fact about this cemetary, if you look you will see two newer graves (newer...like the 1960's). One is for Lillian Merriweather. This is the Aunt of Susan Hayward, a famous actress who played in over 50 movies from 1937 - 1972.

She starred with other greats like Gary Cooper, John Wayne and Charleton Heston. She received five Acadamy Award nominations and won the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for I Want to Live! She also has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame at 6251 Hollywood Blvd. She died in 1975 of complications with brain cancer.

During her childhood and, at times during her busy career, she would visit her Aunt in Charleston. A claim to fame for an almost forgotten little town.

Take some time to visit this cemetary. Though run down, it does have some beautiful headstones and history. The earliest date I found was 1806, but many of the headstones were unable to be read short of rubbings, and I did not have time to do that this day. mooko will be watching this cache for me.
