Winterville is also known as “The Marigold Capital of Georgia”. Winterville began as a railroad town and for many years was a trading center for farmers in the area. At its peak as a trading center, Winterville had several general stores, a fertilizer plant, two cotton gins and a bank.
The historic Hunnicutt House was once used as a hotel for traveling salesmen, who would stop in Winterville to pedal their wares. Today, this building is a private home and is located on Main Street across from the Methodist Church.
