Hunsley Junction Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

Just off a public footpath in a deep wooded dale.

The cache is placed near the junction of Hunsley Dale and East Dale to the NE of South Cave, and is on the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail. It can be approached from a number of directions. The two nearest practical parking places are near Drewton Manor at N53°47.146' W0°36.152' and at the small parking area on Beverley Road at N53°46.928' W0°34.052'. If parking at Drewton Manor please respect the residents’ request not to obstruct what is their only access road. There should be space to park off the road. It's a round trip of about 4 miles from here on decent paths that will take an off-road pushchair (we've done it with our 2 year old).

The 1138 acre Drewton Estate was until recently owned by a former Hull trawler magnate. Upon his death the terms of his will forced his three children to sell the estate as none of them could afford to buy the other two out. It reportedly sold for around £6 million. It’s relatively rich in wildlife and we saw a roe deer and heard a tawny owl and common buzzard whilst placing the cache.

Please note the footpath has been diverted between the horse kissing gates at N53°47.103' W0°34.822' and N53°47.132' W0°34.715'. The new route is signed and is the one higher up the valley side rather than down by the stream (where it's collapsing). NOTE - A horse kissing gate is just a big version of a normal kissing gate for horse riders, not somewhere to be overly friendly with horses.

The cache is a standard 1L Tupperware container with the usual assortment of swaps.
