Geocache Description:

The cache is now in a water thermos (cooler). The old cache was in a PVC pipe. This is a lovely place for a picnic and a swim. The water can be very cold. Dogs are allowed on a lead. Accuracy may vary due to tree cover.

A string of beautiful waterholes fringed by paperbarks and rushes and surrounded by eucalypt forest and exotic pine plantations make Wongi State Forest and Forest Reserve a special place to visit. Lenthalls Dam is the water supply for Hervey Bay Shire and is in the heart of the forest. Wongi is reputedly an Aboriginal word meaning snake. Tannins leached from the paperbarks stain the water in the waterholes a golden-brown colour. Reflections can often be seen in the still waters. The National Bicentennial Trail passes through the forest.
