After meeting at Secret Trail Head: Ox Parking, I went hiking with
iwikepie, nodrogenus and nooks this morning as part of a
geocache-placing mentoring hike related to placing caches in
natural areas with iffy GPS reception. (FYI: in case you didn't
guess, I was the self-appointed mentor. 
)
Anyway, this was a very pleasant hike in the wonderful Henry
Cowell Redwoods State Park with geocachers who proved to be good
hiking companions too. (Hopefully we will meet and hike and cache
together again!)
We talked about placing caches in spots that wouldn't cause
seekers to create hillside erosion or new geotrails. We talked
about types of places to hide containers where they wouldn't get
muggled, and we talked of the importance of using good descriptions
to help seekers in areas where GPS reception is iffy. I also helped
with improving a couple of nearby cache placements that should now
be well-received by future geocache seekers. 
And on the way back, they helped me choose a place to hide a
non-micro cache container that I just so happened to have with me
in my backpack! 
They even came up with the cache
name!
This cache is not too far off of the established hiker's trail
River Trail on the river side of the trail using a hiding-style
known locally as "under a laying of sticks". Seekers will be able to seek this
cache without creating geotrails or causing hillside erosion.
And the location of the hide is very visible from the
trail.
Coordinates were taken by nodrogenus while standing up above the
cache on the top of a certain "sumtin" with a Magellan explorist
210 (I believe) after allowing the GPS to settle down for several
minutes.
Note to the The First to Find: don't despair if you find the log
already signed! You will find the log already signed by iwikepie,
nodrogenus, and nooks.
