My turnaround point on a poorly prepared quest to be FTF for the Bear Mountain Cache (GCVWM3)
A valuable lesson from when I was a "Coe newbie" and had no idea how huge and difficult Coe could be! I set out from Coe Headquarters at noontime and grossly underestimated the time it would take to get to the Bear Mountain Cache GCVWM3. This is the spot at which I decided I should head back. There's a great view from here to the north and east, including the Bear Mountain area. After arriving here from Poverty Flats, I headed east to the Narrows Trail and south to China Hole. Did I mention I was unprepared? The Narrows Trail was very slow, including carrying my mountain bike over rocks. By the time I got to China Hole I was out of water and worried about making it back. Some kind backpackers allowed me to use their water filter and soon I was on may way up the 5 mile uphill trek back to headquarters. Cache is a quart size jar that is easy to spot. The challenge is getting here (and back)! There's a 20 second video from the cache location on YouTube. Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZVcAvdla1o It includes a truck blasting by on the road to the west and kicking-up alot of dust.
