The great debate around the house at Thanksgiving time lately
has been what type of cranberry sauce should be served with the
turkey. It used to be easy, the jellied sauce that came out
of the can and held its shape like a lump of Jell-O. Then one
Thanksgiving, Mom was not paying attention when she bought the
cranberry sauce and came home with a can of the whole berry
sauce. You should have seen the dismay on her face on
Thanksgiving day when she opened the can and the sauce did not hold
its shape. What was Mom to do? All the stores where closed.
So she sampled the sauce, it tasted fine, and she served the sauce
proudly with a smile on her face. Some of us loved the new
sauce while some of us were not happy with the unexpected
change. Mom said something to the effect that if you didn't
like the new cranberry sauce you didn't have to eat it as she
reached for a second serving. And so the debate continues to this
day with no resolution. We now have a little of both types of
cranberry sauces on the Thanksgiving day table to ensure peace in
the family.
What sauce should be served at Thanksgiving? Does it
really matter? Oh the stress of choices that have to be
made!
Enough of the cranberry sauce. For this cache you can come get a
great view of the McDonald area cranberry bogs where some of those
cranberries from days gone by were grown. Look for a small
Lock&Lock container with a log and misc. swag. When you
are finished with the cache, consider a walk around the bogs to
view the wildlife that is now sheltered there. You can also
look at the old foundations that presumably date from the cranberry
operations.
