Geocache Description:

This is in honor of one of the cheesiest and therefore best television shows to ever broadcast in the early 1980s, and more importantly in honor of some real American heroes. I remember watching this as a child with my parents and for some reason the theme song has stuck in my head ever since.

The Greatest American Hero is an American television series which aired from 1981 to 1983 on ABC. It premiered as a two hour movie pilot on March 18, 1981. It starred William Katt as Ralph Hinkley, Robert Culp as Bill Maxwell, and Connie Sellecca as Pam Davidson.

The series is a superhero drama-comedy. In it, Hinkley is a schoolteacher who encounters aliens who give him a special bright red suit which endows him with superhuman abilities. The novelty of the show was based on Hinkley's inability to properly learn to use the suit, and even learn its various capabilities, other than by trial and error, due to his having clumsily lost the instruction manual. A common gag involves Ralph clumsily trying to strip off his outer clothes to reveal the suit before his enemies can get away. The show is typical of producer Stephen J. Cannell's style of character-driven quirky drama where the plot is secondary to the relationships between the characters.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. You will need to remember the theme song to help you find the first stage which coincidently is where you should park. The song is sung in first person and in the chorus the singer is:

“Flying away on a (__1__) and a (__2__)”.

(For those of you too young to remember the show or song, or those of you too old and losing your memory, or those of you who just had better things to do in the evenings and better shows to watch, a little research will easily help you come up with the missing words.)

Convert the letters of the missing words into numerals (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.) and add the numbers together (i.e. CAT = 3+1+20= 24).

Take 882 and subtract (__1__) to get ###. Take 142 and add (__2__) to get ***

Park at N 35º 09.### and W 080º 44.*** for the first stage and in order to begin your hunt.

When you park/get there, look around and you will see the station of some real American heroes. If you see them out please stop by and tell them how much you appreciate what they do for all of us. You will need the station number and the address number of that station to find stage two: the final cache.

Take the station number and add 150 to get $$$. Then take the address number and subtract 2090 to get @@@.

Final cache is at N 35º 10.$$$ and W 080º 44. @@@

Good hunting and good luck.
