Geocache Description:

A simple grab and go along a desolate highway.

Joe and Alice Farnsworth were so proud of their new neon sign. Like others in 1952, they had little to spend on frivolities, so they selected a one word message to spread the word of what they sold. The sign simply read: EATS!

True, there were few cars that passed by on the way to nearby Edwards Air Force base. Also true were the incessant rumors of space creatures coming to this area, called Area 45 by the military folks, as well as nearby Area 51. But who believed in creatures from outer space, anyway?

Twelve days after the new neon sign went up, EATS in all capital letters, Joe and Alice heard a huge roar and then a loud crashing sound nearby. A flurry of dust rose up where something had impacted the earth at an incredible speed. Pouring out of a large crater were 20 to 30 odd looking creatures, thin with large heads but seemingly intelligent. They swarmed around the mesquite bushes and in seconds the plants were stripped to the desert floor. Then Joe saw one of them point at the new neon sign- EATS!

As they swarmed toward the tiny cafe with its flashing neon sign, Alice spoke. "My God, Joe, do you think they can read English?" Joe never got a chance to answer that question.......

Your task will be to find what is left of Joe and Alice's cafe, the Rocks Cafe. Find the cache while you are there.

Do not approach this cache from Highway 58. Stopping on the highway could be hazardous and unnecessary. Look for the turnoff to Edwards AFB and then look for the frontage road along Highway 58. You will find the entrance to the road at 35 00.714, 117 52.882. Plenty of safe parking and you may enjoy a visit to what is left of the original cafe. You should not cross any fences to get to the site.
