The Colonel's Rest Traditional Cache

A short distance from this cache is the memorial for Colonel Børre Johan Petersen (1846 -1916),  picture to the left of both the memorial and the colonel himself.

It is actually also a private graveyard. The ashes of the colonel and also the ashes of his wife Axeline and two of his sons are placed inside the the memorial. Private graveyards are very uncommon in Norway.

The colonel was the owner of the Heggsvoll (Hegsvold) farm, 200 m north of the small hilltop covered with decidious forest, were the memorial and cache is located, from 1891 to 1916.

The colonel became Second Lieutenant in 1868 and First Lieutenant in 1878 . He was in French service in the years 1878-1879. He was awarded with a knighthood of the French Legion of Honour.

In 1890 he owned the for the times very modern house in Uranienborg Terasse 16 in Kristiania (Oslo).

He was promoted to thee rank of colonel and was made  commander of the Opplandske Regiment of Dragoons.

The cache is a small cylinder, holding just the log sheet. Bring your own pencil. The cache is not directly visible.

The easiest access to the cache is where the Ottestad path (Ottestadstien) crosses the road from Ottestad to the Stange church. There is a signpost there, see photo.

Receiving is a little bit difficult under the trees, take a bearing from an open area.
