Geocache Description:

You're looking for a magnetic tube above ground level.

In the Centre of Newcastle stands Grey’s Monument, completed on 24th August 1838, at a height of 41.75 metres.

As well as spending his time inventing blends of tea, Earl Grey was the Prime Minister responsible for passing the 1832 Government Reform Bill that paved the way for modern parliament in this country.

Below the monument’s base lies buried a Victorian Glass time capsule which contains the original plans for the monument, and some gold and silver coins and medals donated by the then Mayor, John Fenwick.

In 1980 the monument's foundations were strengthened and are situated in the Metro station below.
