Geocache Description:

Kalahatten är med sina 250 meter över havet Piteås högsta berg. Från toppen är utsikten fantastisk och täcker hela nedre delen av Piteå älvdal. Från Kalahatten kan man tydligt se inlandsisens verkningar när den drog sig tillbaka från sydost mot nordväst och hur åsar och sjösystem bildades.

När inlandsisen smält stack endast fyra meter av berget upp över ytan, allt annat i älvdalen låg under vatten. På bergets baksida ligger ett stort klapperstensfält. Här finns en 4000 år gammal offerplats. Uppe på bergets topp finns vindskydd och eldstäder. Perfekt för en picknick!

På tisdagkvällar under juli och halva augusti kan du på väg upp till toppen njuta av våfflor gräddade över öppen eld.

Cachen består av en genomskinlig plastlåda som innehåller loggbok, penna och några bytesvaror, samt en liten gåva till FTF.

Därefter är det en promenad på 1,5 kilometer upp till toppen av berget.

Kalahatten is Piteå’s highest mountain with a nice view over the whole of the Piteå River Valley. From Kalahatten it is easy to see the effects of the inland ice when it withdrew from south-east to north-west and how hills and lake systems were formed.

After the inland ice has melted only four meters of the mountain was above the sea level. The rest of Piteå was below the surface. The top of Kalahatten is a perfect place for a picnic, there is shelter for the wind and campfires.

On Tuesdays evenings in July and August you can buy waffles, prepared over open fire, on your way to the top.

The cache is a plastic box with log book, pencil, some things for trading and a little gift for the FTF.

From the parking place there is a walk of 1,5 kilometre to the top.
