Geocache Description:

The cache is located near an abandoned airfield Called Rittenhouse Army Airfield #2. One of several auxiliary airfields in and around the old Williams Air Force Base used by WW2 student fighter and bomber pilots as part of their training at "Willie".

The airfield was closed in the late 60's. The long runway is over 6000' which would make it capable of training jet aircraft as well. From the air there are 4 runways arranged triangular fashion. Look it up on Google maps!

Park at 33 14.969/111 30.696 from here its a .32 mile hike. Again follow the dirt path North, then turn East on the "taxiway". The runway is in much better shape here on the SE end. You'll see a heliport used occasionally by the AZ Army National Guard about halfway up the runway if you choose to hike up there. One you arrive near the site you'll find a picnic table and shade.
This cache is on State Trust Land and a valid State Land Recreational Permit is needed to lawfully enter this area. More info for obtaining this permit can be found at: (visit link)
