Geocache Description:

A short level walk suitable for pushchairs ,Be aware of the traffic if walking through the village.

These caches have all been placed in close proximity to old or unusual sites with Fire Service links. This reflects my former occupation and will hopefully enable me to revisit places of which I have fond memories. In due course I hope to spread this series beyond the now defunct Avon County boundary, only time will tell so watch this space.

Limited parking is available opposite the station at N51 19.650 W002 51.763 but this road gets very busy and you might be better off parking in Dark Lane
Banwell fire station adjoins the Abbey estate in East Street. The Fire station is still opened on fair days but it is a museum now as the county fire service was withdrawn from here in the 1980's. The Fire station was the gift of Miss Fazakerley of Chorley in Lancashire who came to the abbey in 1883 for her health, in 1887 she supplied an up to date fire engine for the fire station with equipment and uniforms for the crew.Eventually the station housed one appliance with a total volunteer compliment of ten firefighters.. The old station bell can still be seen on the roof.
