I knew that I wanted to place my first ever geocache in a beautiful and hidden location. The first thing that came to my mind was the Hofheimer Grotto in Warren, New Jersey.
The cache is hidden away in a beautiful grotto that was created by millionare Nathan Hofheimer. Nathan Hofheimer was a wealthy investor in Germany and eventually decided to retire in the U.S. Here he purchased over 350 acres of land in Warren, (his house is now being used as the Police Station) and built up a copper mine. Later the mine closed and Nathan had a giant stone grotto built over the land that once occupied the mine. This grotto still stands today and is tucked away in the woods of Warren (its now over 80 years old) and is being preserved by the Elk Club. It is here where the cache is hidden. To best way to get to the grotto is to drive toward the Warren Public Works Department. Right when you arrive at the front entrance you will see a stone path on your right hand side. You can park your car in the small lot on the left and follow the stone path to the grotto. The cache is hidden nearby the entrance to the grotto.
Important: The cache is not hidden on top of the rock wall so you do not need to climb up it! The cache doesn't require any climbing whatsoever so don't get hurt!

You can learn more about the Hofheimer Grotto in Issue 21 Page 85 of the Weird New Jersey Magazine. The cache is a small tupperware container filled with small trade items. Happy Hunting!!!!!!
