May Creek Salmon Release Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

kitty-kat: Our class released the salmon at Honey Creek this year instead, so I wasn't able to show my classmates this cache. I will archive it now because the floods keep on washing it away. We are also moving to Somerset, so look for a new cache from us there soon. Bye bye, May Creek. [:D]

Geocache Description:

On the west end of May Creek Park, along the edge of the creek.

This is where the fourth and fifth grade classes of Kennydale Elementary release their salmon fry each spring as part of the "Salmon in the Classroom" program. The class begins with 500 eggs placed into a 55-gallon tank, and throughout the year they learn about the life history and habitat of the salmon. In spring time a large bus load of 4th- and 5th-graders come to this creek side spot to release the small salmon fry. I'm still in third grade so I have one more year to wait until I get to do this. My sister did it last year and she said it was a lot of fun.

The sattelite reception in this area is not very good, so you might consider looking at the spoiler photos. For parking, after turning left onto Jones Ave, drive 0.9 miles and go past the "weight limit" street sign. You will pass the small trail on your right, then park on the right, just before the guard rail.

Happy hunting!
