The Lula Lake Land Trust has always been friendly to caching and this one was placed with the permission of the property manager. The Lula Lake area is best known for the two waterfalls there, but there are miles of other trails and interesting sights to see! This cache is placed high on a ridgetop with excellent viewpoints of the sweeping valley below and the city of Chattanooga off in the distance. The little town of Flintstone GA is directly below, but this cache cannot be reached from the school! The only access is through the gates off Lula Lake Road. It is less than 6 miles from Rock City, on the top of Lookout Mountain.
LIMITED ACCESS: Public access is only available the first and last Saturdays of the month and reservations are required via the website posted. Please do not attempt this cache any other time! Arrangements might be made for group access at other times by contacting the management, see the web page for more information. The location is well worth planning a visit to; there are miles of trails with excellent views of Chattanooga Valley, a thriving chestnut orchard, etc.
Go through the main entrance gate and follow signs to nearby parking. Stop and pick up a trail map. This cache is on the Bluff Road (dirt fireroad; no vehicles allowed.) There are several trail routes that could be used to reach this cache. At a minimum, it is a 2-mile round trip hike, with over 400' elevation gain. The most direct route starts by crossing the footbridge at the edge of the parking lot, but if time allows, you may wish to hike down by the waterfalls and then up to the ridgetop from there. Deer, wild turkeys and lots of other flora and fauna are frequently seen. You are looking for an ammo box. It is well concealed... When you find it, you will be less than 40' from the trail, and not near any dangerous dropoff points, but it is a ridgetop, please do be careful! Please bring your own pen. Enjoy!
