Geocache Description:

This cache is a small ammo can hidden in a forgotten but beautiful park. Half the fun of this one will be just getting there. There are no signs to the park other than the entrance itself. Park is in the Days Point area of Smithfield. PARK OPEN TUESDAY-SUNDAY 8 AM TIL DUSK!
(CLOSED MONDAY)

The Isle of Wight County Park Fort Boykin has been a part of American history since 1623, and since that date has been involved in every military campaign fought in the US. It was originally constructed to protect the colonists from “Spaniards by sea and Indians by land”. Fort Boykin was built in the shape of a seven-pointed star.

The famous poet Sidney Lanier, of Alabama was stationed at Fort Boykin for several months during the Civil War. While stationed at Fort Boykin, he wrote “Beautiful Ladies,” “Hoe Cakes” and began the novel, Tiger Lilies.

This is another lovely park in Isle of Wight County. From this site you can also see the Ghost fleet in the distance. Plus there are a couple of other surprises!

I left a few plastic bags for CITO, however this park is immaculate. You may want to take the bags with you to another location for CITO, please feel free.
