Located in the heart of the beautiful town of Merrickvile, these locks are one of the prettiest along the canal. Sitting at this lockstation is the biggest blockhouse on the Rideau Canal. The Blockhouse is now a museum which is open during peek session.
It has been discovered that more of the great Colonel’s treasure is hidden. This time somewhere around the Merrickville Locks area. It is up to you to follow the below clues to find it!!
The above coordinates (N44 54.993 W75 50.242) will take you to a building. Go to the plaque on this building and find what year/s it was built. Take the last two digits of the earlier year and perform the following math to yield the coordinates.
XX + 36 = N44 55.XXX
XX + 513 = W75 50.XXX
These coordinates will take you to the cache. The cache is located along the Depot to Dam Trail which runs along an artificial embankment built during the canal construction, separating the man-made canal cut from the former channel of the Rideau River. The trail is on the north side of the locks.
