This Bridge was originally built in the 1830's and was in use by 1835. Shingle Bridge as it was known was the first covered bridge in Waterloo County. It was destroyed in 1857 by a flood.
It was rebuilt and replaced finally with the current bridge which can be see just upstream from the original location.
This bridge is now currently under reconstruction. While it will be closed for 2 years foot traffic can pass. Please ensure that you park at the suggested coordinates.
It is a fairly short Multi that will introduce you to the Walter Bean Trail> This is a great place to park and start the trail which continues down into Galt. There are several other caches along this trail and it would make a wonderful day trip
Be sure to keep your eyes open for birds, this area is known to have grey herons, osprey and even the occasional bald eagle.
