Geocache Description:

Located just off the Bizz Johnson trail along the upper Susan River.

This cache it located a short hike off the Bizz Johnson trail downstream of the Goumaz campground.

Goumaz was a camp or outpost of the railroad when it was operational here many years ago. Steam engines used to stop here to refill with water after climbing the grade out of the Honey Lake valley. The tracks have been removed long ago and now the grade is an excellent bike trail. Goumaz is at the half way point between Susanville and Westwood, and now has a small campground managed by the USFS.

The area is accessible via either the trail or a dirt road, which is generally in good enough condition for a car in the summer, but is impassable after the snow flies.

The cache itself is located near the river in an extremely beautiful area. You may want to bring a camera, as it is postcard material. After locating the cache, climb out onto the rocks in the river, but be careful! We don't want any geocachers getting washed downstream!

There is a camera in the cache. Please take photos of your cachers, and I will post them when the film is used up!
