Geocache Description:

One of a series of 3 caches on the footpaths around pretty Stratton Audley. There is ample parking in the village but please park considerately.

The pretty Oxfordshire village of Stratton Audley is located on the old Roman road from Alchester (old Roman town nr Bicester) to Towcester. The village has always been very rural in character and is currently bordered by several farms and is home to the hounds of the Bicester Hunt with Whaddon Chase. You may hear them on your trek! Whilst you are here, you may like to take a peek at the church of St. Mary & St. Edburga. The building has Saxon and Norman elements, but predominantly owes its current style to the 13th., 14th., and 15th. centuries. Within the church, there is a plain medieval font, a beautiful Jacobean pulpit and a large 17th. century baroque monument to a member of the Borlase family, who built the manor in 1545. On your way to the final cache you will pass a scheduled ancient monument, this is the moated remains of the medieval castle of the Audley family.

Inside this cache you will find the North co ordinates for the final cache in this series Stratton Strides

The final cache has had to be altered slightly and is a few feet from the co ords you will be left with once you complete this and the other cache in the series. Please read the final cache page before embarking on this series.Whilst in the area you may also like to look for 'Stratton Stream'
