Geocache Description:

The co-ordinates above are for the suggested parking place, where the first clue should be found. The route follows a vaguely circular walk, with the clues leading to the co-ordinates for the final cache. The route crosses (at least twice) a main road where children must be supervised. After that it follows a quieter road and footpaths, some quite steep with steps: the cache isn’t suitable for bikes or pushchairs, and there may be sheep around so please keep dogs under control.

Our first cache is named, somewhat tortuously, after the Schrödinger's Cat thought experiment devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrodinger in 1935. Our black cat was named Schrodinger or Schroedie as we felt he was living proof of the theory. The point of the experiment was to illustrate a paradox in that the cat involved existed equally in a live or dead state, only determined when the box in which it had been placed was opened: Schroedie was jet black so you never knew if he was around at night until you stepped on him . . . when he certainly let you know. We felt it fitting that our Schrodinger TB should also start its life in this cache, with the aim of travelling to other caches but always returning to this one. So those who find this cache may open it to see Schrodinger TB within . . . or not.

Good luck, and let us know what you think!

The first co-ordinates are for the first clue and a bit of parking.

1 – Find the parking place at 51N 40.858 02W 14.049. What’s the maximum period you can park here? Multiply the first figure by the second to give you j. Then add the two digits of the weight limit to give you d. Sadly work is going on at the moment. So until it gone and I can check it here are the answers for the first question. D=8 J=6

2 – Head to the fire hydrant sign on a post at 51N 41.014 02W 14.120. The first number of the highest two-digit figure gives you c: the first number of the lower figure gives you f.

3 – Over the wooden stile, across the field and up some steep steps, then look for three numbers on a pole at 51N 40.901 02W 14.204. Add them together and the second digit gives you b

4 – Go to 51N 40.875 02W 14.147 to find when the author of The Sheep Pig opened some redesigned buildings. The second digit of the year gives you k

5 – Go to 51N 40.803 02W 14.134 and find a double door. Add together the number of panes of glass on the left hand side of the door, plus one for luck. That gives you a, e, g and h.

Replace the letters below with the figures you’ve worked out and then head off to the actual cache, a walk of around half a mile there and back. The medium-sized cache is in a camo bag tied on for security: please replace carefully as you found it.

Good luck, and when you’ve done it you can celebrate at the village pub, The Hog, or the village stores.

Final cache: 51°N ab.cde 002°W fg.hjk

Congratulations to ValiantKnight, first to find on 6 September 2006
