Geocache Description:

An easy road-side memorial, with clues leading to the final cache which is a sandwich box.

The Coordinates above will take you to a memorial stone, with a plaque which provides the clues to find the hidden cache.

THESE ARE NOT THE COORDINATES OF THE FINAL CACHE.

In January 1945, Pilot Officer William S. McMullen of the Royal Canadian Air Force flew his burning Lancaster Bomber over Darlington, staying at the controls until the six members of his crew had parachuted to safety and the aircraft was clear of the densely populated area of the town.

He was killed when the plane crashed close to the memorial site. McMullen Road, on which the plaque stands, was named in his honour.

The motto of his squadron, based at RAF Goosepool at Middleton St. George was "usque ad finem" (to the very end).
