This is a gentle stroll from the village principally over fields on paths giving you views of the village and Kings Wood on the hillside between Wentworth and Elsecar. It is possible to extend your walk to visit Elsecar heritage Centre and Reservoir and also possible to approach the cache from other points.
You have a choice of two recommended starting points. Firstly, a one and a half mile walk (R) from Wentworth Village Car Park - 50p for 2 hours and £1 for more than 2 hours. Secondly, a two miles walk (R) from the free parking area in front of Wentworth Woodhouse gates.
There are merits in starting from either point but either way please take a look in the village. It is truly beautiful. It contains amongst other things two pubs selling food and traditional ales - each has a beer garden, a Bistro, shops, tea rooms, large garden centre including shops and a childrens animal farm. There are other caches in the area including a virtual cache in the village titled Wentworth Wanders - Old and New. From either of the starting points find the public footpaths that lead from Clayfield Lane over the fields towards Kings Wood. There are a number of stiles early in the walk - these can be avoided if you walk through the village and down Barrowfield Lane turning right on the footpath on the right. The paths can get muddy in winter or following rain.
The cache box is a 1 litre tupperware style box containing log book, pen, pencil, sharpener, FTF card, cache card and assorted goodies. I have included my own 'Woody' gecoin to get him on his way. The views of Kings Wood and Wentworth Village church are excellent. You may wish to return by continuing along the path and then turning left towards the village on a concrete track that leads to Wentworth Sawmills.
