The main area of Kirrie Den was created by a steep depression in the ground. The large open area is known as Court Hillock and is believed to be where open air Regality Courts were held.(Also a good viewing spot for the dunking of witches in the witches pool) The steep grassy sides make the area a natural open air theatre. Once bands or minstrel groups performed in the Den and people sat on the slopes to watch. Now there is a bandstand there. In recent years local childrens groups have occasionally done plays in the den.The Gairie Burn runs right through the area.
Previously there were 2 ponds there - with the descriptive names of the Big Pond and Little Pond. The big pond was flooded for skating. The little one was a swamp. This area hs now been reclaimed and is now the site of the children's playground.
The Den also once housed a mill until it was removed in the 1940s, although the mill lade still remains along the length of the Den.
GPS signal varies from eratic to non existent under the trees so the clue should help
