Geocache Description:

Located near Heritage House and the Historical Society. The cache is a small Tupperware containing small trinkets. Great family cache destination.

Heritage House, which sits just south of the Salome Sellers House, was, not surprisingly, originally part of the Sellers farm. Salome Sellers lived more than a hundred years; her son Dudley built the handsome Greek Revival House with attached barn some time after the Civil War.

The Deer Isle-Stonington Historical Society makes its headquarters in the modest Cape that was Salome’s home. The society, the Island Heritage Trust, Penobscot East Resource Center, and the Stonington-Deer Isle Marine Resource Committee all use Heritage House to present displays to the public. Both the Sellers House and Heritage House are open July-September on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, 1-4 PM. The Archives building behind the Sellers House is also open September-June on Monday afternoons.

The whole family will enjoy the Sellers Farm attractions. In addition to the furnished home of the historical society, there are displays featuring America’s Cup yachting races, Wabenaki archeological artifacts and basketry, the Preserve Room which gives information on the Island’s 12 natural areas open to the pubic, art works evocative of the natural environment, an interesting time-line garden, the Tidely Two sandbox, and a children’s corner in Heritage House.
