Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the site of the former Alexander Bay Train Station. The first train stopped at the station around 1892. The station operated until the mid 1970’s when it was tore down. Trains continued in Newfoundland until 1988 and then in the summer of 1989 the tracks were taken up. Signs of the old railway such as railway spikes and ties can be found in the area.

To access the cache take the gravel road that leaves the highway 2.4 kms west of the Glovertown overpass. Travel 1.5 kms on this gravel road to the site. The road is a bit rough but is regularly used by cars, you just have to take your time. Otherwise you can walk the route.

The cache is a white 2L container. At the time of placing it was well stocked and contained:

several lapel pins (Town of Gander and Canadian Ice Service)
Environment Canada keychain and pen
2 Scout crests
light stick
Downhomer sticker
Black Horse keychain
tape measure
keychain light
penny holder
fridge magnet/thermometer
Grave Digger travel bug
and an assortment of small kids toys.
