Geocache Description:

This is a little more interesting cache than the others we have done in Taos. It's still pretty easy but will be fun when you find it. It's along the road and I suggest that you trust your GPS.

This cache is located just outside the Mabel Dodge-Luhan House property. Kathleen has had dreams with this house as a theme for over 40 years. Yes, it is an incredible hacienda. Mabel Dodge could have been accepted in any high society circles but it was Taos where she wanted to live. Over the course of her life she had invited many prominate artists to Taos to live and or visit. It was this effort over her life that helped establish Taos as an art community. She lived a Bohemian life style swearing that she would marry a chief from all the neighboring tribes. She married an Indian man named Ton Luhan and later wanted to divorce and he said that doesn’t happen here and that ended her attempt to marry into multiple tribes. She had painted with D.H. Lawrence and evidently he saw her naked when she was bathing and was so taken back that he painted all her bathroom windows. She didn’t seem to have a problem with nudity. Today, artists go to the Mabel Dodge Luhan house to rest, gain inspiration and to create. It is not uncommon to see artists on the property working. When you go to this historic building be sure to see the magnificent bird houses and ask those around what Dennis Hopper had to do with this house. There is so much to say about this place but not here.
