Geocache Description:

This cache is located at Veterans Memorial Park in New Castle, DE. It is a plastic micro at a nice quiet park. The container itself is approximately a 3 x 1 inch cylinder; please bring your own pen. Also, please make sure the lid is closed tightly. And of course, re-hide as well if not better.

Please be advised that the park is only open dawn to dusk and has special events on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Also, “lunch time” is typically the most active time of the day for this park with many people eating and taking breaks at this park, please use extra stealth during this time of the day.

This park is maintained by the Delaware River and Bay Authority and was built to honor the veterans of Delaware and New Jersey. There is a memorial wall with nearly 15,000 names of men and women from the two states who were killed in service to their country that was built in 1956. The writing at the top of the wall reads, “Inscribed here are the names of those valiant men and women of the state of Delaware and the state of New Jersey who gave their lives in the service of the United States of America during World War II and the Korean War in whose memory this Delaware Memorial Bridge is dedicated.” There is also a nice reflecting pool, statues, plaques, and flags all to honor the veterans. Please take the extra time to explore this small rarely visited park.

Overall Terrain Rating is still a 1, but the last 15 feet or so may be considered a higher rating, so be aware.
