A paddling adventure along 5 Mile Lake.
We placed this cache while on an overnight canoe camping trip on 5 Mile Lake. The wind tends to blow the length of the lake, which depending on the direction, can make things difficult.
If the wind directions are against you it could be a long, difficult, frustrating and maybe impossible task.
The cache is located on a small island in 5 Mile Lake therefore a boat (canoe in our case) is a requirement.
Please bear in mind that this cache is in a remote wilderness area. There is no cell phone service and no nearby highways. You should attempt this cache only if you are prepared to stay overnight in the woods and be self sufficient.
The true experience of this cache (and all caches, I believe) is the journey, so once you reach the island I figure you deserve the find so I’ll provide as much help as I can.
The cache is in an ammo box hidden inside a rotted tree trunk. There is a large cavity in the tree trunk at ground level. There is brush growing all around the perimeter of the island but there is a small clearing towards the inside (middle) of the small island. The tree trunk is within this clearing
