Easy walk from the parking area
The reclaimed dump site now made into a picnic and recreation area known as Suminsby Park is located on Sargent Drive which connects Rt. 198 on the northern end with Northeast Harbor at the southern end. Although it is surrounded by Acadia National Park, it is located on property owned by the town of Mt. Desert and is open to the public. There are picnic tables and grills and a place to launch small watercraft such as kayaks and canoes. Paddling the Sound at high tide is best but beware of winds that can come up suddenly. Enjoy the views of Somes Sound which is considered the only natural fjord in the lower 48 states. The cache is a quart sized lock and lock camo covered container. Depending on snow/ice this cache may not be winter friendly.
