"The 1834 Bootes
Cabin"
This Quest will take you to the recently relocated 1834 Bootes
Cabin. This cabin is the oldest structure in Marshall County and
was donated to the park by the Marshall County Historical Society
for one dollar.
The log house was disassembled in 7 hours and moved to the park in
2005 for restoration and reassembly. Replacement Tulip Popular Logs
need for the restoration were cut from the park's own woods and
each corner notch were hand cut with chisel and wooden mallet the
traditional way.
The two story log house has its original doors, stair case and
hand planed and notched second story floor boards. If you look
closely, some of the original scribe marks can be found near the
corner notches on the original logs.
This cabin is a work in progress. Make sure to come back and
visit it when it is finished.
