Geocache Description:

The highway between Fallon and Schurz was very hazardous during the period of time when Nevada had no vehicle speed limit. You could travel as fast as you wanted as long as you drove at a “safe and reasonable” speed.
At this time there were no fences along the road to control the cows because this was “open range’ country. Driving at night through this area was a real challenge especially during the winter months. The cows loved to stand or bed down on the warm highway after dark. Even after 1973 when the driving speed law was changed to 55 MPH there were still numerous accidents, many resulting in death.
After the Paiute Tribe at Schurz volunteered to fence off their range the accidents dropped considerable.
This magnetic Altoid tin cache, with a Sacagawea dollar for the first to find,is dedicated to the people of Schurz for their humane and thoughtful endeavor.
