Geocache Description:

Taking a Walk on the Wild Side
(or as close as we can get and still be in the City Limits!)

  • Where: Centennial Park (Cabin Area)
  • When: November 18, 2006
  • Time: 2 - 7pm
  • Parking: N 32 25.017 W 099 42.720

Hello from The Amigos!

It seems that most of us don't like caching in the West Texas heat! There were some die-hard cachers in our group this summer, but most of us just chilled in the A/C. Now that the weather is cooling down, this is a great time to have a group get-together and do some caching, too! So, we looked around and we think we've found a great place for us to do both!

Not many people around here know that this park exists, and even fewer know about the cabin area. That is why we chose this location. We have gotten permission from Abilene State School to use their facilities for the day, so that we can have a good time! We do need to be respectful of the area, so that we may be allowed to use the area again sometime. A plus to using this location is that there won't be any muggles!!

There will be about 15 to 20 caches hidden in the area to find, and prizes will be given for some of them. We are also working on a game or two that we can incorporate into the hunt! I am working on getting donations from local businesses for prizes, and possibly a few coins and/or swag donated from the coin companies!

As of October 5th, donations have been received from the following businesses & organizations (in no particular order):

  • Hendrick Medical Center
  • United Supermarket on S. 14th
  • United Supermarket on Judge Ely Blvd
  • United Supermarket on North Willis
  • Putt-Putt Golf & Games
  • Premiere Cinema Ten Theatres
  • Sonic on N. 1st
  • Sonic on Sayles
  • Joe Allen's/Cahoot's
  • Tamolly's
  • CiCi's Pizza
  • Mr. Gatti's Pizza
  • Mrs. Baird's Bread
  • Cold Stone Creamery
  • The Spaghetti Warehouse
  • Golden Corral coupons (donated by Dr. Savage, DDS)
  • Academy Sports and Outdoors
  • Wal-Mart
  • China Star
  • CoinsandPins.com
  • GeoTruckers.com
  • TXGA.net
  • Groundspeak.com
  • geocoinshop.com
Please show your support and pass on your thanks to these fine organizations for donating to this event!

THERE WILL BE A RAFFLE for the wonderful Silver Geocache America 2006 geocoin that was generously donated by CoinsandPins.com. The tickets will be $1.00 each with all proceeds going to support your Greater Abilene Geocachers Assocation. Tickets will only be available for purchase at the event. You must be present to win.

There is a nearby park for our smaller geobuddies, if they want to play instead of caching, but they must have adult supervision at all times. There are also bathroom facilities at the park and at the cabin area.

This get-together will also be a Pot-Luck dinner, as there aren't any nearby eating places. We are going to provide Smoked Sausage and Hot Dogs. We are asking everybody else to bring the goodies to go with these. Please let us know what you are bringing, so that there are not a lot of repeats of the same things. We will need bread, hot dog buns, veggies, chips and dips, and desserts. If you bring a dish of some kind, you will need to bring enough food to feed 6-8 or more. Refrigeration will be provided for all items that need to remain cold, but there isn't any way to heat foods (maybe I'll bring the microwave!) If this idea doesn't appeal to the majority, we can just do brown-bags for our own families. Let me know which you would prefer. Bring your own drinks. (NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED IN THE AREA!)

I do need a head count so that we can buy enough sausage and hot dogs. Please email me with an approximate number of people attending to RWFriend1@yahoo.com, by November 10, 2006.

We look forward to seeing everybody and just having a good time! If you are going to be finding the caches we hide, we recommend jeans and good shoes for this area. Mosquito spray may be needed, also. Be prepared to do a little hiking!
