Geocache Description:

Second in a series of seven caches planned around a Civil War event which took place in eastern NC in July 1863. There were small engagements which took place all over this area as forces from both sides played cat and mouse with each other from early 1862 until the war's end. Gather information to help find a traditional cache at the end of the series.

This area, which was settled about 200 years ago, was an important strategic location and was used by both sides. You will find easy access and parking is plentiful but beware of muggles. The cache is pretty small so BYOP to sign the log. Make note of the Union soldier who was mortally wounded near here almost at the conclusion of the war and the unit to which he belonged. Be careful replacing the container as it will only fit in certain positions. Enjoy!
