The Cromarty Firth
has several Pictish symbol stones along it's eastern shore. The
Clach a' Mheirlich, Thiefs Stone stands in a field at Rosskeen,
a mile or so to the West of Invergordon.
Unfortunately the
symbols on the southern side of the stone are almost worn away but
night photographs have shown that they consist of an arc symbol
above a disc overlaid by a line. Below this is a pincer or split
sword symbol. On the Eastern side of the stone there is a stepped
symbol. There appears to be a double disk symbol on the stones
norther face, but this is very difficult to see.
The cache is a 35mm
film canister located close to the site of the stone.
