So good they named it twice, Another traditional Canberra cache on the urban edge, there can't be too many of the taller hills left, this one stands at 812 Meters.
Nice medium climb from near the lost puppies to the top, Great views around southern Canberra. I did the climb in half an hour with a dodgy ankle so it should be a lot easier for a more able bodied person. The container is a bit bigger than a regular and is well stocked, screw off lid (lefty loosy, righty tighty) please ensure its secured and recovered properly when your done, thanks.
Only approach from the east as there is a huge drop off to the quarry on the west, there is a substantial fence preventing access (with three rows of rusty barbed wire on top) and it's best to stay out of that area around there altogether. Enjoy the view its well worth the climb.
And some further info on the now disused quarry nearby.
A major Quarry on Mt Mugga Mugga excavated Mugga Mugga Porphyry for use as construction gravel. So this stone is spread all over Canberra, on the roads, and in concrete.
The Mugga Mugga Porphyry is a lava flow. It is blue or mauve grey in a mass. The rock is veined with calcite, light green epidote, and deep red hematite. The phenocrysts are quartz, grey plagioclase, and lesser amounts of pink potash feldspar and flakes of biotite.
