Joey's Jar - TCDNNL Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

skisidedown: I guess this cache has had its run. I've had to replace the container and changed its location twice. Still it disappears and the area is still littered with garbage and toilet paper!

The view is great, but this one has just become too much trouble for me.

Thanks,
Skisidedown

Geocache Description:

A cache at Joey’s Lookout, near Gambo, NL. Container is an 800ml Lock n Lock. The lookout is right beside the Trans Canada Highway and offers an outstanding view of Freshwater Bay.

Joey Smallwood was the last Prime Minister of the Dominion of Newfoundland, and the first Premier of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. He was a native of Gambo, and the lookout where this cache is hidden honours his name.

Joey was somewhat of a controversial figure. To this day there are people who swear that he was the worst traitor ever, for his role in Newfoundland joining Canada. Of course, there are just as many who think he should be Sainted.

But enough of history and politics (please remember I am neither Historian or Political Scientist and have done no research other than to listen for a few years) - there is a cache located here for you to find!

The container has at time of hiding - two NL flag luggage tags, three Republic of NL flag keychains, two NL flag stickers, a fishing lure, a set of air bed replacement caps, a toy truck and some geocaching stickers and tattoos.

The lookout is very popular in the summer and you will be in plain view when getting to the hiding spot. You might need a less than perfect day to thin out the sightseers enough for you to grab it. If you are there on a nice summer day you can always have a sausage while you wait - I don't think the vendor has any real fixed hours, but his wares are worth the coin!

The container measures approximately 7 inches by 4.5 inches by 2 inches and is NOT camoed! Please replace it carefully in its hiding spot, so that it won't just fall out.

What does the TCDNNL in the cache name mean? Trans Canadian Newfoundland and Labrador. A search using TCDN as the keyword should turn up a list of caches all across Canada that are less than 2km from the TCH, take less than a half hour and are difficulty 2 or less. Enjoy!
