Geocache Description:

Bright container.

The Vulcan and Consolidated Mines were the prominent mines in the Burning Mountain area. Coal mining was the major reason for the influx of activity here in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There was an explosion that killed 49 miners in this mine. When they tried to put out the fire by diverting water from Elk Creek into the shafts, it created a massive amount of smoke and a new build up of gases. This has caused the coal seams to burn even now. You can really see the hot spots during winter on the side of the mountain. This cache has a really nice view of the river. Make sure you have a good time looking around the area. Do be careful, and remember, HAVE FUN!!
