Beautiful Views and a mysterious name.
Every motorcycle rally we put out a new cache in the Ruidoso area, just one. We already have many locations scouted, with one particular place in mind to hide the cache, and here lies our journey into the name.
You can park 35 feet from the cache and will still be 40 feet away, it’s that steep.
Some cache names are very straight forward and simple, while others are as difficulty to understand as the recent puzzle cache craze currently cropping up in our area. Our cache name would be one of the latter, without an explanation. Our adventure started when I didn’t have any of the smaller ammo cans left, so I grabbed a big one. This really isn’t a problem unless you understand that it has to go in my motorcycle saddlebag and takes up a lot of room. Up to the rally we go and have a great time. As usual, HarleyGirl buys some stuff at the trade show that takes up the void where the ammo box will not be on the return trip. We head off on Saturday afternoon to hide the cache and encounter two problems. The “creek” to cross is now a river and cannot be conquered without getting wet, and I underestimated the terrain where the cache was to be placed, uh oh. So as we are heading back to the hotel we stopped at another location we had looked at before. A beautiful view and very close parking, but what do we name it? The log book says “Cache Aspen”, but as you might have already guessed, the item she bought at the trade show was a genuine Harley Davidson felt cowboy, Red Hat, that we now had room to take back with us.
