in our disclaimer.
This camo'd to match its surroundings small honey dispenser is
hidden on an overlook of the Missouri River, but there is about 2
miles of gravel from the end of SD Hwy 1806 at the Whetstone Bay
Rec Area. It is a drive-up cache, but be careful to allow for other
vehicles to pass during your stay.
This cache will provide you with marvelous scenery, seldom seen
canyons and intriguing topography at the moraine, and a couple 90
degree river bends.
Lewis & Clark camped at Whetstone Bay which hosted L & C
re-enactor events in 2004 and 2006 on the 200th Anniversaries of
the famous Expedition.
The cache is small with log but no trade items. You don't have to
cross any fences to claim your prize.
The road to the cache starts at the west end of Bonesteel, SD, and
is paved all the way to Whetstone Bay. From there, you'll have 2
miles of well-graveled road, but which may not be accessible during
snow periods. So, in winter with snow in
abundance, you should check local conditions.
The road leads ultimately to a dead end at the Mulehead Ranch
gravel pit, so you can expect to see working gravel trucks on the
road during work hours.
